What can I not say about Ms. Jae' Jones?..
She is truly a "Jae' of all trades". Over the years, not only has she been our Realtor, but also a counselor, a voice of reason, and most of all a friend. It all started back in the fall of 2015. Young, newly married, expecting our second child, and determined to buy our first home, my husband and I found Ms. Jones.
I can recall our very first conversation like it was yesterday; Very professional, stern yet friendly she asked "How serious are you about this?" From that moment on I knew she was not going to accept any foolishness nor was I going to be the one to give her a hard time.

When I say this woman jumped hurdles for us; that is an understatement! She was there, not only as a Realtor but like a sister. A very knowledgeable sister who had our best interest at heart and had a way out of EVERY trial that came our way through our process! I stress EVERY TRIAL! From layoffs, family disagreements, and emotional breakdowns she was there EVERY step of the way. She walked us through every step.
A few years later, she helped us again sell that first home and purchase another. Not only was this one transaction but two! Then we were expecting baby number four thinking we had a good idea of what we wanted and what the process entailed. Let's just say we needed that hand to help through this yet again and boy did she deliver! Of course, we had purchased before but buying during the pandemic was a whole new process. Long story short after visiting neighborhood after neighborhood, house after house, we finally found the right one! I'm pregnant, with a house full of kids, and my husband working crazy hours. Before I share my story, I wanted to let everyone know that I was her favorite client, LOL. I met Jae’ through one of my co-workers whom she assisted in their homeownership process. He bragged about how thorough she was, and that’s just what I needed. I had no idea what I was doing. I’m the first person in my entire family to purchase a home, earn a degree, and work toward breaking generational barriers, and at times I was fearful. However, all of my fears subsided and was replaced with a knowledgeable and caring person, Jae’. When I started my process, I didn’t have the credit score needed to get the approval I could appreciate. Jae’ guided me in what I needed to do and worked with me for 9 months before being pre-approved, she even called to check on me. Once I was ready, she literally told me to get a notebook so I could write down everything she said. I had information on banking rules, different mortgage products like Conventional loans, PHFA loans, and grants or offers that were available for me. You name it I had info on it.
I gave Jae’ a nickname, "The G.O.A.T", and she is just that. I’m sure a lot of the time you hear those horror stories of people being taken advantage of and manipulated in this process, Jae’ made sure that everything was done correctly and on time. When I tell you she knows every step in the process that includes the loan officer, the behind-the-scenes department with the lender, the inspector, the seller, their agent, and what each of their jobs entails in this process.
Jae’ can make you feel comfortable. We used to talk for hours about life lessons and laugh about stories I would tell her. I could always ask a question. She would say tell me a funny, meaning a joke. I was looking for a home and found a friend as well. I now have a beautiful home and it’s been almost two years now, and I have Jae’ to thank. Before we get to me owning a home let’s talk about my journey, I am a single mother of five children and not having the proper space to regain custody of my children, you can imagine how my outlook was at that time in my life. I share this because before meeting Jae’ this vision our reuniting my family and having our own home kept being placed on hold. Meeting Jae’ was a blessing because she helped me regain my confidence and stability. I know you wondering how? Well, she helped me purchase my first home and she had to deal with all my ups and downs, fears, and so much more. I always thought you needed a 700 credit score and a bunch of money to obtain a home and that was something that I did not have in any way or fashion; Jae’ assured me that this was not true and I would have to trust the process. When she told me that all I had to do was to save 2k and not touch it. She told me not to make any big purchases and pretty much fallback. I listened and I got my pre-approval! Next Jae’ took me house shopping as I like to call it, we saw three homes and I thought I found my home but she kept telling me not fall in love with the first house that I saw and that I should give myself options, well that kind of went in one ear and out of the other because I believed the first house was my house but the first house showed me to listen to my Realtor. I submitted an offer on that house but my offer was not accepted. But all hope was not lost and after seeing other houses I was losing faith but Jae’ just kept telling me to trust the process it would be fine, and at the last minute said I have one more house I want you to see that was not on our original list of houses to view that day. I agreed and we went to my new home. The block had me sold but it was not until we into the property that the house felt like it was already mine. Once my kids said the words: “This is OUR HOUSE!” I knew that we were home. I submitted an offer and the seller agreed to my terms. The funny thing was that the seller ran out of money to make certain repairs that the appraiser requested so to show my dedication to buying the home I jumped right in and started working on the house before it was officially my home. Long story short without Jae’ Jones taking on all of my mental breakdowns, whining sessions, and my uncertainties I would not have had a house to bring my kids and regain custody of my children and create a home. I was so proud when she met me at the final walk-through and the settlement table. I was never alone in my process. Ultimately, “ I GOT THE KEYS!” Yes, I got the keys to my home in less than 3 months and I only had to save 2k to stop losing my mind! I would say to anyone looking to own a home for the first time it’s possible. I had a 580 credit score, was an excellent Realtor, only 2k in the process, and trusted the process. The house buying process is a BIG reality check because what you think might not match what you can really afford or want. We found something that we didn't know we wanted! And it was the PERFECT house for us. Yes, it was one of "Jae's MYSTERY Homes".
Before the mystery, we looked in some terrible neighborhoods but we had to SEE them to know that were in terrible neighborhoods. Because the houses might have fit our
family but the neighborhoods were not exactly for our family. We wound up finding the perfect home and neighborhood for us. Jae' found our home! The number of bedrooms was incorrectly listed as a 3 bedroom and we got inside the house it had 4 bedrooms. Exactly what we needed. It was a good mystery... Honestly, we did not know what to expect after meeting Jae' Jones at the homebuyer seminar. She was hosting the event and there were other agents there as well but we agreed on Jae' representing us.
I was drawn to her and said to my husband that she had to be our Realtor and my friend! After the workshop we met with Jae' and I told her that we wanted her to represent us and that she would be my friend. Congratulations to me! This was a journey that not only helped me find a house, but find myself. It was definitely a scary road to conquer. When they say credit is everything, it is everything! A few years before deciding to buy I had started working on my credit which is the first thing in the process that is looked at. I would say the biggest takeaway from the whole process is managing your funds and reviewing your bank statements. Checking how you're spending your money and if what you're spending it on is truly necessary. I found out I was wasting more than I was saving. Jae' Jones. . . What can I say. . . If she can't get it done, no one can! On our last purchase with Jae', we ran into a ton of unforeseen problems. Anything you can imagine from loan officers jumping companies, water problems, sellers trying to pull out of the deal. . . You name it, and it happened in this deal. There were days when I felt like I was going to have heart failure, but Jae' was always cool and calm. When I decided to move forward with purchasing a home I knew my credit would be an issue. I met Ms. Jones through my sister and brother-in-law and they mentioned her credit consultation services. I won’t lie, I was skeptical because other debt relief services I tried that did not work.
I called Jae' Jones and let her know my ENTIRE SITUATION, and boy was it a situation. She assured me it was not more than what she could help me with or more than I could handle. She had me come in her office and laid out three options for me regarding how to negotiate and pay down my debts.

One of my biggest concerns was how long it was going to take to improve credit, because in my mind, my credit was so far gone, and I felt like it would take at least a year to fix. Ms. Jones very clearly showed me a path to have it completed in a shorter time frame and executed on that.
NOW, my credit score has jumped up to the highest it ever been. My credit report is not 1,000 pages long, and I’m well on my way to homeownership. Not to mention, the relief I feel knowing those debts are no longer looming over me. They contributed to my hesitation to even starting this process because I did not know how homeownership could be real for me. I thought it would take a decade to do and it happened in less than 9 months.

"Do it SCARED"
I moved from North Carolina to Philadelphia in the summer of 2005. I was a super depressed, overwhelmed, void of real direction college student. To say I moved here with a dollar and dream would be an overstatement. I had one suitcase and $5. My biological mother lived here. So, I felt comfortable accepting her bus ticket, and her promise to help me get a job and adjust to this new life. I took that long trek on the Greyhound bus from Raleigh to Philadelphia only to find my mother wouldn’t pick me up from the bus station and wouldn’t answer my phone calls. I only assume she sent my aunt to get me because she truly appeared out of nowhere. She asked me where she was taking me. I told her I was going to my mom’s house. Despite her not coming to get me, I was still excited to see her because I hadn’t seen her since I was 14 years old. I was now 23 years old. When my aunt dropped me off, I knocked on the door and rang the doorbell only to be greeted through the cracked door by my mother saying, “You can’t stay here. It’s just me and my husband here.” Then she closed the door in my face. Before this moment, I could admit I had been through a lot and didn’t have the easiest life, and I was “fine” with that narrative. After this moment, there was a fire in me that no one could smother. I was driven by rage and vowed that I would make people, past and present, who made me crawl watch me fly! I was motivated by resentment, and I told myself that the best revenge was living well and exceeding the expectations they imposed on me. I was determined to kick down doors that had been closed in my face. I struggled, I struggled a whole lot! My first job was at Lord &Taylor on City Ave. I made $96 every two weeks. If climbing a ladder was a person, it would be me. I changed jobs often but only for jobs that paid more than the last. I didn’t quite understand the benefits at the time. Ultimately, I began working for the City of Philadelphia in 2011. It was there that I learned the power of networking, and having a good reputation among several crowds. That’s exactly how I was introduced to Jae' Jones; she came highly
recommended by a work associate. I attended a first-time homebuyer’s workshop. I was introduced to an entirely different way of thinking and handling money. It was exactly what I was hungry for; growth, elevation, knowledge, and wisdom to apply what I learned. I was ready, kind of. I was coming out of a tumultuous five-year relationship. I was a full-time student with a full-time job. I had given up my apartment after the breakup because I couldn’t afford it on my own. My grandfather allowed me to move into his back room until I could come up with a plan; buying a house just seemed so far away for me. I wasn’t rich. I didn’t know anything about credit except that mine was bad. I had already talked myself into settling for whatever I could get and not going after what I wanted. Having had a conversation with Jae' a few months prior, she told me what I could do to put myself in a position to become a homeowner, but I didn’t believe her. I couldn’t believe her because I couldn’t see my own strength.
What I did know is that I couldn’t stay in my grandfather’s back room forever; that was not the move for me. So, I reached out to Jae' and told her I was ready to start the process. I had no idea what I was really signing up for. It wasn’t the houses. It wasn’t Jae' or the underwriters. It wasn’t the banks. It was the vulnerability, the mandate to face poor habits and why I have them, and the challenge to change my thinking about myself, money, and emotions. I had to face fears with which I had long co-existed. I couldn’t ignore them anymore. I could no longer ignore my poor money management because having a house meant I was going to need a nest egg for emergencies at least. I had to submit a bank statement and pay stubs every month until the day I closed and give an account of what I spent and how I spent it. It taught me accountability and real responsibility to myself. It taught me to pay attention to myself. It also taught me the need for clear direction and that having dreams without a plan was just dreams. It taught me the importance of creating a village and that extreme independence is a trauma response (there’s nothing wrong with extreme independence; I’m acknowledging what it is). I also had to face my driving forces. Anger and resentment were no longer enough to push me. I had to begin re-evaluating my purpose and the goals I set for myself. I also had to start the process of healing and renewal. I closed on my home in May 2016. My home is my favorite place to be. It’s my sanctuary, my place of peace. I love it here. If you are still reading this, I encourage you not to give up. It’s okay to need help. You may not have a big village of supporters, but I know you have at least one in Jae' Jones. You only really need one. I encourage you to show up for yourself and keep the promises you made to yourself. Even when you feel like you’re drowning, I promise you’re not. Self-care is equally important as the house-buying process. Self-care does not have to cost you money!! Whatever your process is, commit to it and see it through. The banks and underwriters can be scary, but what’s for you is for you. The biggest takeaway you can have from all of this is “Do It Scared!” I did...
